In 1925, the Redford Union Schools district hired the Detroit architectural firm of Verner, Wihelm and Molby to design this school to serve as the District No. 1 elementary school; it was completed in December 1925. The school was named in honor of Samuel D. Holcomb, a local physician. The original school contained thirteen classrooms.
The football team played their home games at Kraft Field, located at nearby Hilbert Middle School, until 2023. On September 6, 2024, the first football game was played at the new Bob Atkins Field built at Redford Union. In 1969, the boys track team won the state championship. [6]
Other buildings in the district are Roosevelt Center, Beck Center and Pearson Education Center, all former K-12 buildings as well as Raeside Administration Building.
