  2. Duplex (telecommunications) - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duplex_(telecommunications)

A duplex communication system is a point-to-point system composed of two or more connected parties or devices that can communicate with one another in both directions. Duplex systems are employed in many communications networks, either to allow for simultaneous communication in both directions between two connected parties or to provide a reverse path for the monitoring and remote adjustment ...

full duplex (both devices send and receive at the same time) half duplex (devices take turns transmitting and receiving) For UART to work the following settings need to be the same on both the transmitting and receiving side: Voltage level; Baud Rate; Parity bit; Data bits size; Stop bits size; Flow Control

  4. Escapement - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escapement

In the duplex, as in the chronometer escapement to which it has similarities, the balance wheel only receives an impulse during one of the two swings in its cycle. [53] The escape wheel has two sets of teeth (hence the name "duplex"); long locking teeth project from the side of the wheel, and short impulse teeth stick up axially from the top ...

A two-way radio is a radio transceiver (a radio that can both transmit and receive radio waves), which is used for bidirectional person-to-person voice communication with other users with similar radios, [1] in contrast to a broadcast receiver ...

  6. Duplexer - Wikipedia

TR duplex switching. In radar, a transmit/receive (TR) switch alternately connects the transmitter and receiver to a shared antenna. In the simplest arrangement, the switch consists of a gas-discharge tube across the input terminals of the receiver. When the transmitter is active, the resulting high voltage causes the tube to conduct, shorting ...

This appears to be consistent with the definition attributed to ANSI. ITU-T also appear to have a definition for duplex (which matches my understanding of full-duplex as capable of simultaneous transmission in two directions) and of half-duplex Query Definitions. The only area of confusion is thus the use of the word duplex vs full-duplex.

  9. Session layer - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_layer

The session layer may provide three different dialogue types - two way simultaneous (full-duplex), two way alternate (half-duplex), and one way (simplex). It also provides the mechanisms to negotiate the type of the dialogue, and controls which side has the "turn" or "token" to send data or to perform some control functions.
