The locomotive's prime mover was an EMD 645 16-cylinder engine that generated 2,000 horsepower (1.49 MW). The company built 706 GP38s for North American railroads.
An EMD GP38AC is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between February 1970 and December 1971. It was basically a GP38 with an AR10 alternator instead of the GP38's normal generator. [1] [2]

EMC standardized on welded frames after 1939. The "TR" designation stood for transfer locomotives. The SC and SW switchers were the first locomotives produced in EMC's new factory after its completion in 1936. The pre-SC and Model 90 switchers were development design locomotives outshopped in 1935.

The museum tells the history of the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) in the Second Indochina War and the Cambodian-Vietnamese War. The museum comprises one main building with a small display of uniforms and flightsuits, aircraft weaponry and engines. Outside is a static park with aircraft of the VPAF and the Republic of Vietnam Air Force.
On October 2, 2007, a Su-27SK number 6005 flown by pilot Dao Quoc Khanh had a bird fly into the engine. The pilot landed the plane safely but the plane was seriously damaged.
