Canada's Top Ten is an annual honour, compiled by the Toronto International Film Festival to identify and promote the year's best Canadian films. [1] The list was first introduced in 2001 as an initiative to help publicize Canadian films. [1] Normally announced in December each year, the 2024 list was not announced until early January 2025. The list is compiled once every decade. [1] The list was started in 1984 because Canadian film was taking off, and was made by polling critics, professors, fans and festival staff. [2] According to Piers Handling, a TIFF director, the idea of the Top 10 was to introduce the public to Canadian film, and around 100 people were polled.
