The Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, Pennsylvania, United States, was designed by Milwaukee architect R. G. Schmidt and built in 1925. [2] First used in November 1926 as a meeting place for Masonic groups, [2] it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
New Castle is the county seat of Lawrence County which has a population of approximately 91,000. In 1998, New Castle was a host city for the History Channel Great Race. Over 15,000 spectators gathered downtown for the festivities. The city celebrated its 200th birthday in 1998 with a downtown fireworks festival that attracted over 30,000 people.

In 1936, this was changed to continue north past Ohioville, allowing PA 168 to extend up through New Castle/Lawrence County and to its new northern terminus at PA 208 in Leesburg/Mercer County. In 1959, nearby PA 278 was decommissioned and replaced as a realignment of PA 208; thus, PA 168 and PA 208 ran concurrent for the former's last three miles.
In Riceville, PA 8 intersects Pennsylvania Route 77. 5 miles (8 km) north of PA 77, PA 8 enters Erie County. In Union City , PA 8 merges with U.S. Route 6 for 0.5 miles (0.8 km) through downtown. Just north of the split with US 6, PA 8 meets the southern terminus of the northern segment of Pennsylvania Route 97 .
