The Chicago Lakefront Trail (LFT [1]) is a 18.5-mile-long (29.8 km) [2] partial shared-use path for walking, jogging, skateboarding, and cycling, located along the western shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois. The trail passes through and connects Chicago's four major lakefront parks along with various beaches and recreational amenities.
Initially, US 41 followed what used to be Illinois Route 42. [2] In 1931, it was rerouted away from Zion and Winthrop Harbor while IL 42 north of Chicago remained untouched. [3] In 1935, an entire section of US 41 between Chicago and Waukegan was realigned to a new alignment. The new alignment closely matched the current routing of US 41. [4]
From North Chicago to the state line, Sheridan Road is signed as part of Illinois Route 137 in Illinois, and Wisconsin Highway 32 through Kenosha and Racine in Wisconsin. Sheridan Road is known for its historic sites, lakefront parks, and gracious mansion homes in Evanston through Lake Bluff.
