Saint Marys is an unincorporated community in Butler Township, Franklin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. [1] The community took its name from St. Mary's of the Rock Roman Catholic church located in the township near Pipe Creek along St. Mary's Road. [2]
St. Mary's Parish built a new church which opened in 2007. The church seats 1000 people comfortably. The school has undergone two major facility renovations in 2018 and 2022. A needlepoint bipolar ionization system was installed in all air handling units in both the church and school buildings in 2020.
In 1944, the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana was created by dividing the Diocese of Fort Wayne and St. Mary's Church was chosen as the cathedral for the new diocese. The cathedral has undergone a number of changes including an interior redecoration and addition of a social hall in 2001.
