The name is derived from the poem "Yusuf and Zulaikha" by 15th century poet Jami and later medieval Jewish sources, however in the Qur'an the name is simply "ٱمْرَأَتُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ" (roman: "Imra'at ul 'Azeez") (Aziz's wife).
