TOI-715 is a red dwarf star located 42 parsecs (140 ly) from the Earth in the constellation Volans, [note 1] very close to the southern celestial pole. [4] The star is smaller and cooler than the Sun and has an apparent magnitude of 16.7 and is too faint to be seen with the naked eye or even a small telescope.
At its perihelion on 27 September 2023, the PSP's closest approach was 7.26 million kilometers (4.51 million miles), [14] reaching this distance again on 29 March 2024. [ 15 ] On 24 December 2024 at 11:53 UTC, PSP made its closest approach to the Sun, coming to a distance of 6.1 million km (3.8 million miles) from the surface.
The planet is located some 1,200 light-years away. A light-year is 5.8 trillion miles. It's the second-lightest exoplanet found so far based on its dimensions and mass, according to the researchers.
