Chattahoochee State Park was a public recreation area located in the extreme southeast corner of Alabama operated by the government of Houston County, Alabama. The park occupied 596 acres (241 ha) along Irwin's Mill Creek on the Florida -Alabama border.
The Chattahoochee River is a stocked trout stream [3] with 23 species of game fish. Year-round fishing is available with a Georgia fishing license and a trout stamp. In 2012, the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area was designated as the Chattahoochee River Water Trail to become the first river named a National Water Trail.
This list of Alabama state parks covers state parks in the Alabama park system. As of 2023, there were 21 official Alabama state parks run in part or exclusively by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources [ 1 ] and three historic state parks run by other authorities.
Beginning in 2008, the Friends of Chattahoochee Bend organization began hosting work days to aid in the development of the park. The park was opened to the public on July 1, 2011. It was the first new state park to open since Tallulah Gorge State Park in 1993. [3]
