General Kai, or simply Kai (voiced by J. K. Simmons, silent role in Kung Fu Panda 4), is a bull and the main antagonist of Kung Fu Panda 3. He was originally a friend and brother-in-arms to Grand Master Oogway, and was taught how to use chi by the pandas of the Secret Panda Village.
In the Spirit Realm, Master Oogway fights General Kai, a spirit bull who has stolen the chi from all the other deceased kung fu masters. He steals Oogway's chi, but not before Oogway warns Kai that someone is destined to stop him. Kai uses the stolen chi to return to the Mortal Realm and is enraged to find he has been forgotten from history.
Oogway then banished Kai to the Spirit Realm after Kai tried to take the pandas's powers of chi for himself. As Kai can only be defeated by a master of chi, Po decides to learn the power of chi on Li's suggestions as it was an innate ability of the inhabitants of the panda village.
