Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) (Urdu: جامعۂ بہاءالدین زکریا) is a public university with its main campus located in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. Bahauddin Zakariya University was founded in 1975 as Multan University , and is the 2nd largest university in Punjab following University of the Punjab .
Up to date, the HEC has published rankings for the years 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014 and most recently 2015. [2] In addition to the top ten and general rankings, independent rankings are also provided for universities and institutes in the categories of agriculture and veterinary science; arts and design; business; engineering and technology; and medicine. [2]
The institute was offering 3-years diploma in textile for providing skilled workforce to the industry. In 2004, the status of the institute was elevated to an engineering college by handing it over to Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan. [4] Before the takeover, there was no institute in southern Punjab that offered a textile engineering degree.

Alfalah Institute of Banking and Finance was established in 2012 at Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan. Within a short span of three years, the institute has managed to establish its mark and has attained recognition as a primer institute of South Punjab.
In January 2005, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan (BZU) established a sub-campus in Sahiwal inaugurated by the then Governor of the Punjab in 2005. In 2015, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab passed an act under which sub-campus was upgraded to a full-fledged university named University of Sahiwal. [2]
