In November 2001 the Angelus Temple, founded in 1923 by Aimee Semple McPherson, merged with The Dream Center and Matthew Barnett became senior pastor of both churches.At the time of the merger, Angelus Temple was a long way from its glory days as one of the largest churches in the nation.
[1] The church has grown under his leadership over the past three decades. In 2011, Barnett turned over the senior pastor's post to his younger son, Luke; he remains as co-pastor. Tommy Barnett and his son Matthew founded the Dream Center in 1994, as a home missions project of the Southern California District of the Assemblies of God. [2]
