Exciter is a Canadian speed metal band from Ottawa, Ontario, formed in 1978. Named after a song by Judas Priest , [ 2 ] they are considered to be one of the first speed metal bands [ 3 ] and cited as a seminal influence on the thrash metal genre.
Exciter is the tenth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was first released on 14 May 2001 in the United Kingdom by Mute Records and a day later in the United States by Reprise Records. The album was produced by Mark Bell, and was supported by the Exciter Tour, one of the band's most successful tours.
The tour began on 23 March 2023 and concluded on 8 April 2024. This marked the first concert tour to not feature keyboardist Andy Fletcher , who died in 2022. The tour was first announced on 4 October 2022, along with the Memento Mori album announcement at an event in Berlin . [ 2 ]
The band continued touring and recorded five more albums as a trio—Exciter (2001), Playing the Angel (2005), Sounds of the Universe (2009), Delta Machine (2013) and Spirit (2017)—until Fletcher's death in 2022. Gahan and Gore have since continued as a duo. Their latest album, Memento Mori, was released in 2023.
