FSW was established in 1962 as Edison Junior College, named after Thomas Edison, who spent winter months in Fort Myers. Its first campus opened in 1965. In 2016, the tournament moved to Suncoast Credit Union Arena , a 3,300-seat facility on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College and remains there as of December 2024.
