It is 8 miles (13 km) from the center of Arapahoe (at the Arapahoe School) northeast to the center of Riverton, via Rendezvous Road. According to the United States Census Bureau , the Arapahoe CDP has a total area of 27.8 square miles (72.1 km 2 ), of which 27.6 square miles (71.6 km 2 ) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km 2 ), or 0.68%, is water.
Riverton was laid out in 1887, and was named after its location on the Wabash River. [4] A post office was established at Riverton in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1905.

Nearing 34.5 miles, the western terminus of Wyoming Highway 136 (Gas Hills Road) is intersected which travels east towards the Gas Hills Mining District. Just after meeting WYO 136, Highway 135 crosses the Little Wind River and reaches its northern terminus at Wyoming Highway 789 just south of Riverton.
