When Kiryu attempts to call the orphanage to warn them of the Daidoji agents, Haruka answers the phone but hears no response, due to Kiryu being blackmailed by his handler Kihei Hanawa. On the anniversary of Kiryu's "death", Haruka takes Haruto to visit Kiryu's grave in Okinawa, unaware of the hidden camera nearby that watches over the grave.
Kiryu gives him the file containing information about the stolen money and Kido returns Yasuko to him. Katsuragi then orders Kido to shoot her, but he turns and shoots Katsuragi in the chest instead. Kiryu frees Saejima, who warns them that Katsuragi is wearing a bulletproof vest, as on the night of the shooting.
Mourning Someya and Kiyomi, Kiryu and the Hirose Family mount a full-scale invasion on the Yomei Alliance. In anticipation, Iwami and Sugai kidnap the awoken Haruka and Haruto. The Hirose Family rescues the two, and a heavily wounded Kiryu defeats Iwami, but is shot by Sugai. Kiryu seemingly dies before Sugai takes his own life.
Eventually, Kiryu learns from Kazama that Haruka is actually Yumi's daughter, and that "Mizuki" is Yumi under an assumed identity. Yumi suffered amnesia after she was attacked by Dojima, but recovered and married Kyohei Jingu ( Robin Atkin Downes /Hiroaki Yoshida), an ambitious politician who allied himself with Sera.

Kiryu later visits a Daidoji hideout in Sotenbori, where he is ordered by the Boss, a high-ranking Daidoji officer, to kill Tsuruno, Watase, and the rest of the Watase Family to maintain his cover. Kiryu holds Hanawa at gunpoint, allowing Tsuruno to escape. Hanawa threatens to harm the children at Okinawa, forcing Kiryu to surrender.
Goro Majima first appears in the original Yakuza game as a supporting character, head of the Majima Family and a lieutenant of Futoshi Shimano. Nicknamed "The Mad Dog of Shimano" (嶋野の狂犬, Shimano no Kyōken), he takes an interest in protagonist Kazuma Kiryu because Kiryu refuses to fight him when provoked.
