Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) (Welsh: Bwrdd lechyd Prifysgol Bae Abertawe) is the local health board of NHS Wales for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, in the south-west of Wales. Established as Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMUHB) in 2009, it was renamed and had its boundaries altered on 1 April 2019. [1]
He left the cabinet following the Welsh Labour leadership election in 2009 and stood down as an Assembly Member at the 2011 election. He later became Chairman of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board in South Wales from 2013 until 2019.
It was renamed from Cwm Taf University Health Board on 1 April 2019 following the transfer of Bridgend County Borough from the former Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (now Swansea Bay University Health Board). [2] It was established in 2009 as the legal successor organisation to Cwm Taf NHS Trust (Welsh: Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Cwm Taf).

He was born in Wales, [1] and joined the NHS as a clerk at the Welsh Hospital Board in 1966. [2] Later in his career he became, successively, Assistant District General Manager of Mid Glamorgan Health Authority, Chief Executive of Bridgend NHS Trust (1993–99), [3] Chief Executive of Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust, and Chief Executive of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.
It managed around 1,400 beds across 14 general and community hospitals. It ceased to exist as a distinct entity following a merger with Swansea NHS Trust on 1 April 2008 to form the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust.
He was a sub panel member for the Research Excellence Framework (REF), sitting on the UoA3 sub panel in 2021/2022. He has an Honorary position at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University (ABMU) Health Board. [1]
