The Summa Theologiae or Summa Theologica (transl. 'Summary of Theology'), often referred to simply as the Summa, is the best-known work of Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274), a scholastic theologian and Doctor of the Church.

A summary version of the Five Ways is given in the Summa theologiae. [6] The Summa uses the form of scholastic disputation (i.e. a literary form based on a lecturing method: a question is raised, then the most serious objections are summarized, then a correct answer is provided in that context, then the objections are answered).
The Summa represents an attempt to "make available the advices and conclusions of the moral theologians to the ordinary priests for specific cases." [3] Thomas lays out the agenda of the work in its preface: "We will more carefully pursue the duties and practical considerations which are necessary for priests to hear confessions and enjoin penances."
It forms questions 90–108 of the Prima Secundæ ("First [Part] of the Second [Part]") of the Summa Theologiæ, [1] Aquinas' masterwork of Scholastic philosophical theology. Along with Aristotelianism, it forms the basis not only for the legal theory of Catholic canon law, [2] but provides a model for natural law theories generally.
