Downsview is a neighbourhood in the north end of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located in the district of North York. The area takes its name from the Downs View farm established around 1842 near the present-day intersection of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue . [ 2 ]
Sheppard West (formerly Downsview) is a subway station on Line 1 Yonge–University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. CPKC Toronto Yard is a facility located in northeast Toronto, Ontario, Canada owned by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City, often incorrectly referred to as Agincourt Yard because it is located in Agincourt, a neighbourhood of Toronto.
The current armoury replaced the previous location at Dufferin Street at Highway 401, built in 1961 and demolished in 2003, now site of Costco's Downsview store. [1] After the closure of CFB Toronto, now Toronto/Downsview Airport, the armoury was relocated next to the new site for Land Force Central Area.
The yard contains 5 buildings, two of which are the General Overhaul and Repair Shop (a.k.a. Greenwood Shop) with a floor space of 185,000 square feet (17,200 m 2), and the carhouse for inspection, minor repairs and washing. [2] The Greenwood Shop has specialized shops for heavy overhauls of subway cars and components as well as stores.
Founded in 1928 as a subsidiary of de Havilland Aircraft (UK), de Havilland Canada was first located at De Lesseps Field in Toronto, before moving to Downsview Airport in 1929. The original home of De Havilland Canada was the Canadian Air and Space Museum located in what is now Downsview Park .
