The journey between Tours and Bordeaux is shortened by around 50 minutes, for a typical Paris-Bordeaux journey time of 2 hours and 3 minutes. 302 km (188 mi) of high-speed track was built together with a further 38 km (24 mi) of conventional tracks that connect to the LGV. [3]
Three principal route options were considered, mainly concerning the alignment between Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Toulon and Draguignan.. The option providing the most time saving between Nice and Avignon uses the speed of the Paris-Nice connection to offer the largest potential clientele base (to compete with one of the strongest internal air traffic routes)
The train line would run via Orléans and Clermont-Ferrand, at a length of 410 km, and is expected to cost €12bn. [22] The route will be known as LGV POCL (Paris, Orléans, Clermont-Ferrand and Lyon). Four potential routes are being studied as of 2011, with consultations continuing into 2012. Work would not start before 2025. [23]
These are all the TGV (French: train à grande vitesse, meaning high-speed train) stations, listed alphabetically. This list includes new stations constructed specifically for the TGV as well as existing stations that are simply served by the trains.
The LGV Sud-Est (French: Ligne à Grande Vitesse Sud-Est; English: South East high-speed line) is a French high-speed rail line which connects the Paris and Lyon areas. It was France's first high-speed rail line, it has also been the most widely used line in France as well as being the busiest high-speed line in Europe.
The station also offers the advantage of enabling Lille–Tours(–Bordeaux) and Strasbourg-Tours(-Bordeaux) trains to serve Paris via the LGV Interconnexion Est without having to turn around at a terminus station (e.g. Gare de l'Est or Gare de Lyon). [1] However, in spite of these advantages, the traffic of this station remains low.
