The San Joaquin River (/ ˌ s æ n hw ɑː ˈ k iː n / ⓘ SAN whah-KEEN; Spanish: Río San Joaquín [ˈri.o saŋ xoaˈkin]) is the longest river of Central California.The 366-mile (589 km) long river starts in the high Sierra Nevada and flows through the rich agricultural region of the northern San Joaquin Valley before reaching Suisun Bay, San Francisco Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.
The South Fork begins at Martha Lake, 11,010 ft (3,360 m) above sea level, [5] near Mount Goddard in the northern section of Kings Canyon National Park in Fresno County.It flows northwest through the narrow Goddard Canyon, receiving Evolution Creek from the east, then leaves the park at the confluence with Piute Creek from the north, entering the Sierra National Forest.
