  2. Corn Syrup vs Corn Sugar? - Homebrew Talk

Southwest. Nov 23, 2007. #2. Corn syrup is basically just corn sugar dissolved in water. Some brands have vanilla added, so avoid those unless you want some vanilla flavor. You'll have to use slightly more corn syrup than corn sugar (by weight) since it has water content. I'm not really sure how much more to use, though.

So, corn sugar (~$1.50lb) can be used in place of rice syrup solids (~$5.00lb). Seems like a no-brainer to me. Maybe I will do a head-to-head light lager split batch, one with some corn sugar and one with rice syrup solids and see if they come out different. I need another 5 gallon better bottle...

This year I would like to try liquid corn sugar, which I think is also called high fructose corn syrup to skip the step of dissolving.

It is related to bottle conditioning of beer, specifically naturally priming the beer with sugars. !CORN SYRUP IS NOT CORN SUGAR! The first 5 batches of beer I made I primed with corn syrup, I instinctively thought it is the same as corn sugar. It wasn't until I experienced several under carbonated batches of beer did I realize something was wrong.

It is annoying how in the US, some syrups are sold by volume and some by weight. I am not exactly sure how that $9 price for 3 lbs of invert sugar translates to that $12 price for 32 fl-oz of Corn Syrup (or if there is a cheaper source of corn syrup without vanilla). At MoreBeer, 5 lbs of Corn Sugar (Dextrose) lists for $13. Liquid corn syrup ...

It's got a 1.2 calculated OG, spot on with the recipe (20+% ABV) Turns out it's like a 30% increase from dextrose powder to glucose syrup, factoring in the water weight. The recipe just says slowly add it until the fermentation stops. Ordered list.

Location. socal. Nov 10, 2009. #1. Hi everyone, I just bottled my first beer last night, a coffee stout, and I used corn syrup for the priming sugar. I used Beersmith to calculate the amount needed (3.25 oz for 4 gal batch). It wasn't until today when I started formulating a new brew, that I noticed Beersmith listed corn sugar and corn syrup as ...

OH! yes! Been using Karo Corn Syrup for priming with really good results. I can get better carbonation in my bottles than powder corn syrup. I also can find it at any supermarket. There's no LHBS around here. I use it at 1 oz/gallon. So for 5 gallon batch I use 5 oz of corn syrup. J.
