This is a list of ancient Egyptian sites, throughout Egypt and Nubia. Sites are listed by their classical name whenever possible, if not by their modern name, and lastly with their ancient name if no other is available.
Egypt ratified the convention on 7 February 1974, the second country to do so after the United States. [3] There are seven World Heritage Sites in Egypt, and a further 34 sites on the tentative list. [4] The first sites in Egypt were listed in 1979, when five properties were inscribed.

The 3,200-year-old Statue of Ramesses II was discovered in 1820 by Giovanni Battista Caviglia at the Great Temple of Ptah near Memphis, Egypt. The statue was found broken in six pieces and earlier attempts at restoration had failed. In 1955, Egyptian Prime Minister Gamal Abdel Nasser moved it to Bab Al-Hadid Square in Cairo. [14] [15]
