The Eveleth Recreation Building was the first modern facility of its type on the Mesabi Range. Eveleth quickly earned a national reputation for its hockey players and teams, including the United States Amateur Hockey Association's Eveleth Reds. In warmer months the recreation building hosted roller skating and public dances.
Several large-scale strikes took place on the Mesabi Iron Range during the early 1900s. The first began on July 20, 1907 after the Western Federation of Miners (WFM) asked Oliver Iron Mining Company for, among other demands, an eight-hour work day and a pay raise. The strike lasted two months and resulted in thousands of workers being blacklisted.

Minnesota North College is a public community college composed of six campuses in northeast Minnesota: Hibbing campus, Itasca Campus (Grand Rapids), Mesabi Range - Eveleth, Mesabi Range - Virginia, Vermilion (Ely) and Rainy River (International Falls).
Hibbing is a city in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States.The population was 16,214 at the 2020 census. [4] The city was built on mining the rich iron ore of the Mesabi Iron Range and still relies on that industrial activity today.
According to the 2000 census, the Quad Cities had a population of 17,868, with 9,157 in Virginia, 3,865 in Eveleth, 2,999 in Mountain Iron, and 1,847 in Gilbert.As of 2020, the Quad Cities' population had declined to 16,479. 92.1% of the population is non-Hispanic white, 97.2% primarily speak English, and 18.4% have a Bachelor's degree or more.
Before consolidation, the Golden Bears & Blue Devils were regular and spirited Iron Range Conference and MSHSL Section 7A rivals. The January 2020 Virginia/MIB vs. Eveleth-Gilbert game was one of the most-viewed hockey games on the Iron Range. The Eveleth Hippodrome was at full capacity and over 3,000 people had viewed the game.
Its name changed again, in January 2014, to Mesabi Range College. [2] It is named for the Mesabi Range, an iron-ore deposit in Minnesota's Iron Range where the campus and Minnesota North College – Mesabi Range Eveleth are located.
