The James W. Dalton Highway, usually referred to as the Dalton Highway (and signed as Alaska Route 11), is a 414-mile (666 km) [1] road in Alaska. It begins at the Elliott Highway , north of Fairbanks , and ends at Deadhorse (an unincorporated community within the CDP of Prudhoe Bay ) near the Arctic Ocean and the Prudhoe Bay Oil Fields .
The base in Fairbanks, Alaska operated by Art Warbelow then assumed the name Warbelow's Air Ventures, Inc.. The base in Tok, Alaska continued to operate under the 40-Mile Air, Ltd. name. It was subsequently sold by Charlie Warbelow and continues to operate, mostly serving destinations along the Alaska portion of the Alaska Highway.

The trading post in Circle and its surrounding vicinity were thought to have been on the Arctic Circle, despite that latitudinal marker being 40 miles to the north.
