San Miguel de Cozumel (Spanish pronunciation: [sam miˈɣel de kosuˈmel]) is the largest city in Cozumel Municipality in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. With a 2010 census population of 77,236, it is also Quintana Roo's fourth-largest community, after Cancún , Chetumal , and Playa del Carmen .
The aerodrome is located on a 16.5 hectares plot of land (40.8 acres), it has a runway 855 meters (2,805 feet) long and 15 meters (45 feet) wide with a turning drop at head 11, an aviation platform of 4,600 square meters (49,500 sq ft), hangars and a terminal building. Officially inaugurated on April 12, 2000, the airport replaced an older facility located adjacent to the archaeological site of Chichen Itzá. Initially, Aeromexico, Mexicana, Aerocozumel, and American Airlines expressed interest in operating at the airport. However, due to profitability issues, the airport was never consistently operational.
