Just Surrender is an American rock band from Dover Plains, New York, formerly known as A Second Chance, [5] formed by three high school friends: Jason Maffucci, Andy Meunier and Steve Miller. The vocalist/guitarist Dan Simons, formerly of The Record Collection, joined the original three and it was a four-piece until 2008.
Carl rehearsed with the band frequently, and by 1988, he joined forces with the southern rock stylings of .38 Special. That year, the band would release the Rock & Roll Strategy album, which included the Cal Curtis/Jeff Carlisi tune that Carl reworked (earning him an additional writing credit) into "Second Chance," featuring Carl on lead vocals.

The band began in 1985, under the name Second Chance with vocalist Mike Vance and guitarist Robby Lee. [2] In 1987, the two added the talents of bassist Danny Wilkinson and drummer Mark Miley.
