Projects. Mauer-Ebeling house in the old Village of West Belleville. The Belleville Historical Society was chartered as an active preservation organization and, since its founding in 2010, has launched several important preservation and education efforts in Belleville.
Photos. This photo of the St. Clair County Courthouse was taken circa 1953. Completed in 1861, the Greek Revival building was located at the site of the current courthouse in downtown Belleville. Its demolition in June of 1972 sparked the beginning of the preservation movement in St. Clair County and Belleville.
During his fourteen years in Belleville, King designed and completed 34 public and commercial projects and an estimated 100 custom designed residences and home additions. Perhaps most notable is the Belleville City Hall. All but three of King’s works in Belleville still stand today.
