I have seen many postings referring to copies of Stradivarius and Guarnerius del Gesu violins. Which are the main characteristics of these violins to look for in order to determine if a violin is a copy of Satradivarius, Guarnerius del Gesu or another maker. thanks, Sergio Mujica

Posted August 31, 1999. : I would like to know how much does a stradivarius violin from 1731 cost? A genuine Stradivarius from around 1731 costs approximately US$200,000. Genuine ones are extremely rare; far more common are cheap factory-made copies, worth in the hundreds of dollars.

Found this in a note on Martin Chalifour published in 2012: In 2010 he began playing on the Ex Earl of Plymouth Ex Kreisler Stradivarius (1711) one of three Strad instruments owned by the LA Philharmonic.

Early Posts - 1996 - 1999. I was given a violin that has a Stradivarius label, and with a brand on the back of the head that says "Consernatory Violin". It is nearly perfect, except for a distressed finish, like old furniture. The wood has lots of tiger stripes. Any information of its value, origin, etc. would be appreciated.
