Every article on Wikipedia with a title in the form "Glossary of subject terms", or similar, is such a glossary, as are the glossary sections inside some articles. These are distinct from outlines, which are titled in the form "Outline of subject" and may also include definitions, but are organized as a hierarchy and use their own style of formatting not covered in this guideline.
The "thesis statement" comes from the concept of a thesis (θέσῐς, thésis) as it was articulated by Aristotle in Topica. Aristotle's definition of a thesis is "a conception which is contrary to accepted opinion." He also notes that this contrary view must come from an informed position; not every contrary view is a thesis. [3]

At universities in the United Kingdom, the term thesis is usually associated with PhD/EngD and research master's degrees, while dissertation is the more common term for a substantial project submitted as part of a taught master's degree or an undergraduate degree (e.g. MSc, BA, BSc, BMus, BEd, BEng etc.).
