On January 1, 2015, Alpha Media began an LMA on the Access.1 stations in Shreveport, Louisiana and Tyler/Longview, Texas. The purchase was consummated on April 14, 2015, at a price of $13.75 million. Effective February 1, 2017 Alpha transferred control of KFRO to a new owner, and returned operation of KCUL-FM , and KSYR to Access.1.
KYKX can trace its roots back to Longview's first FM station, KLTI-FM, which went on the air at 105.9 MHz on October 27, 1948. [3] KLTI-FM was founded and operated by R.G. LeTourneau of the LeTourneau Institute and LeTourneau Industries, and was co-operated with KLTI 1280 kHz.
Wiley College later sold the stations to Jerry Russell, a former member of the Tyler City Council. Russell wanted to use KMHT-FM as a repeater for his AM station, 690 KZEY (which has since gone silent), so KMHT-FM became KZEY-FM. In August 2002, Hanszen Broadcast Group, Inc., purchased KMHT/KZEY and changed the FM back to KMHT-FM.
