The 2005–06 Miami Heat season was the 18th National Basketball Association season for the Miami Heat basketball franchise.During the offseason, the Heat acquired Jason Williams and James Posey from the Memphis Grizzlies, and All-Star forward Antoine Walker from the Boston Celtics, while signing free agent All-Star point guard Gary Payton.
The 2006–07 Miami Heat season was the 19th season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Heat, for the first time in franchise history, entered the season as the defending NBA champions, having defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the 2006 NBA Finals in six games.
The Heat won 58 games in the 2010–11 season, and along with the Mavericks, returned to the Finals in 2011. The 2011 NBA Finals, which was a rematch of 2006, saw the Mavericks win in six games after trailing 2–1 in the Finals. It was the Mavericks' first NBA championship, as well as both teams' second appearances in the Finals.
Alonzo Mourning, who had his number 33 jersey retired by the Heat, is the team's third longest-serving player. Shaquille O'Neal played four seasons with the Heat from 2004 to 2008. Gary Payton is the first Heat player to be inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Glen Rice played six seasons with the Heat since he was drafted fourth in 1989.
