United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) is a private tribal land-grant community college in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 2012, UTTC had an enrollment 885 students, 635 full-time undergraduates, and 250 part-time undergraduates.
A university technical college is a non-selective free school funded directly by the Department for Education, [2] free to attend, and outside the control of the local education authority. University technical colleges specialise in subjects like engineering and construction, and teach these subjects along with employability and IT skills. [3]
The college was founded May 2, 1973, as the agency responsible for higher education on the Fort Berthold Reservation.The Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation in New Town, North Dakota endorsed the concept that a locally based higher education institution was needed to train Tribal members and to help retain the tribal cultures.
The college is a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, which is a community of tribally and federally chartered institutions working to strengthen tribal nations and make a lasting difference in the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
