Newell founded the American Folklore Society in 1888 where he edited the Journal of American Folklore. [3] His best known work is Games and Songs of American Children (1883, Mineola, N. Y.). The songs included tunes with the lyrics, and this book is the first collection of the folk music of American children.

Hilda Roderick Ellis Davidson FSA (born Hilda Roderick Ellis; 1 October 1914 – 12 January 2006) was an English folklorist.She was a scholar at the University of Cambridge and The Folklore Society, and specialized in the study of Celtic and Germanic religion and folklore.
The society publishes, in partnership with Taylor and Francis, the journal Folklore in four issues per year, and, since 1986, a newsletter, FLS News. [10]The journal began as The Folk-Lore Record in 1878, continued or was restarted as The Folk-Lore Journal, and from 1890 its issues were compiled as volumes with the long title Folk-Lore: A Quarterly Review of Myth, Tradition, Institution, & Custom.
David Hopkin (born 1966) is a British historian, who specialises in European social history and folklore in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.. Hopkin has called for historians to engage more with the subjects of folklore, writing in 2004 that historian should pay “…due attention not just to folklore collections, but to folklorists’ ideas and methods”.
