The Indiana Institute of Technology was founded as Indiana Technical College in 1930 as a for-profit private technical college by John A. Kalbfleisch, a former president of Indiana Business College, a for-profit business school. Indiana Tech was formally incorporated in 1931 and opened for classes that same year.
Lay male students from the surrounding area started enrolling in 1967 and the college became coeducational in the fall of 1968. The first president and dean was John Driscoll, C.S.C. Originally, Holy Cross College only offered a two year degree, and students would then go on to top tier institutions like Notre Dame, Purdue, or Princeton. [3]
