    Plumber's putty is obviously different than glue, caulk, gasket sealer, etc. Yet the article does not make the distinction. Plumber's putty cannot bond like glue. Does not harden like latex caulk, does not stick like silicon caulk. I want to discover its applications by thinking though given its characteristics shared in the wikipedia article.
