It was adopted as an official state anthem in 1911 at the behest of Tuanku Muhammad Shah (1865–1933), the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Besar, who ruled Negeri Sembilan from 1888 to 1933. [1] The anthem was subject to the fine-tuning efforts of the second son of the current Yang DiPertuan Besar, Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz. [2]
The anthem is sung in Malay, the national language of the country. It was written by Pengiran Haji Muhammad Yusuf bin Pengiran Abdul Rahim, better known by his pen name Yura Halim, and composed by Haji Besar bin Sagap in 1947. Cut Nyak Dhien was born into a Muslim aristocratic family in Aceh Besar in VI mukim district in 1848. Her father, Teuku Nanta Setia, was a member of the ruling Ulèë Balang aristocratic class in VI mukim, and her mother was also from an aristocrat family. She was educated in religion and household matters.
