Kishwaukee College is a public community college in Malta, Illinois. It is part of the Illinois Community College System and serves District 523, which encompasses most of DeKalb County , and parts of Lee , Ogle and La Salle counties.
Malta Township is one of nineteen townships in DeKalb County, Illinois, USA.As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,557 and it contained 631 housing units. [2] Malta Township was originally formed as Etna Township from a portion of DeKalb Township in September, 1856; it was renamed to Malta Township in December 1858.
The pavement extended from the Malta cemetery at the west edge of town to near the present location of Kishwaukee College. Malta struggled financially until the end of World War I, when an influx of new residents to the area arrived. Currently, Malta is a farming community and also supports nearby Kishwaukee College.
In 1973, the term "junior college" was changed to "community college" by statute, but one college (Joliet Junior College) in the system has retained the term "junior" in its name. Community college district numbers are given for each district. Some colleges were established by school districts prior to being organized as college districts.
