Typically, mandibular tori are clinical findings without the necessity of treatment. The presence of tori may complicate the fabrication of dentures . If removal of tori is deemed necessary, surgery can reduce the amount of bone, but tori may reform in cases where nearby teeth continue to receive local stresses.
In any surgery, the most common complications include pain, swelling, infection and bleeding. Besides that, if operative site is approximating vital structures such as nerve bundle, clinicians should access nerve injury at the time of surgery and/or keep reviewing those patients for assessment and management of the condition.
The recovery time after the surgery depends on the extent of the surgery itself. Patients are usually advised to eat soft foods for days, or sometimes weeks, to allow their jaw time to heal.
