Overton Park is truly in the middle of it all—an iconic public space that is woven throughout the fabric of Memphis life. Its 342 acres offer recreation, relaxation, culture, and nature, inspiring our community to connect with our best selves, with each other, and with the natural world.
Overton Park offers two play areas – Rainbow Lake Playground on the west side of the park, and East Parkway Playground on the east side. Both feature plenty of big, beautiful trees to shade the picnic tables and benches, making them pleasant places for parents and kids alike.
Overton Park Conservancy’s vision is to foster a beautiful, welcoming, and safe park that encourages our diverse community to explore, learn, create, socialize, and play. Our mission is to protect, preserve, and improve Overton Park.
The first phase of the park’s transformation is already complete, with 2022’s opening of the reimagined Overton Park 9. For the next phases, we’ve focused here on the three areas of the park where we expect significant improvements, but other sections will get some needed TLC as well.

Host your fundraising walk or run at Overton Park! Our Old Forest Paved Trail is perfect for smaller races, and we will work with you to develop a route to fit your needs. Rental of both the Old Forest Paved Trail and pavilion is required as part of all walk/run events – see fee schedule below.
Overton Park’s Old Forest is the only old-growth forest in the Southeast to be located in an urban environment. This ecosystem is both a glimpse into the past and a living indication of how humans impact our environment in the present.
