Portrait of Sarah Cowell Le Moyne by Jane E. Bartlett, 1877. Bartlett was born in Harmony, Maine.She studied under William Morris Hunt in Boston in the late 1860s. She developed a style of portraiture based on the principles he taught, including a spontaneous approach and a lack of trivial detail.
Hopeful is a work consisting of a series of light sculptures and signs installed in dozens of locations in several states from Maine to Maryland. [ 6 ] [ 7 ] It began in 2019 as a commissioned piece for contemporary art gallery Speedwell Projects for the roof of their headquarters in Portland, Maine. [ 8 ]
He studied with Portland artist, Charles Octavius Cole and John Greenleaf Cloudman. He was a member of the Brush'uns, a group of artists who went on sketching trips together. After gaining recognition as a gifted artist, Kimball quit painting professionally in 1863 to work as a stair builder and cabinet maker.
