Hetauda was first established as a municipality in 1969. The sub-metropolitan was created in 2014 by incorporating neighboring village development committees into Hetauda municipality. Basamadi is located at about seven kilometers from Hetauda city. The name originates from the temple of basaha mahadeva. It is mostly recognisable by the multinational company Unilever which has a branch here. The Mahendra Highway runs through Basamadi. Madan Kumar Bhandari (Nepali: मदन कुमार भण्डारी) (June 27, 1952 [1] – 1993) was a Nepalese politician and communist leader. He is one of the historical personalities in Nepal history who fought for democracy. In 1993 Bhandari died, supposedly in a car accident.
