[1] Numerous types of psychotherapy have been designed either for individual adults, families, or children and adolescents.

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a brief, attachment-focused psychotherapy that centers on resolving interpersonal problems and achieving symptomatic recovery. IPT is an empirically supported treatment (EST) that follows a highly structured and time-limited approach. Interpersonal therapy is intended to be completed within 12–16 weeks.
In 1986, Greenberg chose "to refocus his efforts on developing and studying an experiential approach to individual therapy". Of individual therapy groups, researchers distinguish between Behavior Control groups (such as Alcoholics Anonymous and TOPS) and Stress Coping groups (such as mental health support groups, cancer patient support groups, and groups of single parents). [8] German researchers refer to Stress Coping groups as Conversation Circles. [6]
