Beijing Women's Prison (simplified Chinese: 北京市女子监狱; traditional Chinese: 北京市女子監獄; pinyin: Běijīng Shì Nǚzǐ Jiānyù) is a prison in Daxing District, Beijing, China. [1] It was established in 1999. It is operated by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Prisons.
An acute problem was the overcrowding of facilities for female prisoners, whose number tripled between 1985 and 1997. This influx was mainly driven by mainland Chinese women convicted of prostitution, working without a proper visa, and drug trafficking. There was also a shortage of female staff to work with female prisoners.
