Many Japanese dialects (including modern standard Japanese) have no [tu], so they have to approximate it by either ト,ツ,トゥ, and the latter two smells like later fashion. /ga/ is homonymous to particle「が」, thus could get omitted due to rebracketing. Well, just my feelings.
