In 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Although there are no precise data on the origin of the city, it is assumed that it was built in the 13th century because it was first mentioned in the Dubrovnik archives (Dubrovnik Chancellery - Diversa Cancellariae), on July 11, 1404, which talks about the transport of goods to Deževica, Podvisko and to a place called "Doboruonich". Currently, there are ten sites inscribed on the list and 15 sites on the tentative list. The first three sites, Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian, Dubrovnik, and Plitvice Lakes National Park, were inscribed to the list at the 3rd UNESCO session in 1979.
