The SUNYAC men's basketball tournament is the annual conference basketball championship tournament for the NCAA Division III State University of New York Athletic Conference. The tournament has been held annually since 1980. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. [1]
2023 – SUNYAC announced that started to sponsor men's wrestling effective immediately in 2023-24 academic year, absorbing the remnants of the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference, 4 full members of SUNYAC sponsors the sport. SUNYAC also welcomed Ithaca, RIT, St. Johns Fisher and Utica as affiliate members in that sport.
In 1992 the SUNYAC conference began sponsoring ice hockey as a men's sport and all SUNYAC teams left the ECAC West to formally found the new ice hockey division. When the tournament became an official conference championship the format was changed to a two-game point system where teams would receive 2 points for a win and one point for a tie.
The 2007 team rebounded after the loss and won its next seven SUNYAC games, the seventh being the Conference Championship on November 3 to advance to the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
While the team wasn't quite unbeatable the following year, they were dual conference champions once more and marched all the way to the championship game. Fredonia was held scoreless in the match, losing 0–1. [3] Meredith led Fredonia to a third SUNYAC regular season crown in 1997 but the team dropped into the middle of the pack afterwards.

The Red Dragons compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and play home games in the city of Cortland, NY. The team was recently coached by Steve Beville, who led the Red Dragons to a national title in 2009 and retired after the 2023 season.
