This Mortal Coil were a British music collective led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD. This Mortal Coil was a musical collective led by producer Ivo Watts-Russell, featuring musicians from the 4AD label. Singer Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, both signed to 4AD at the time, performed on this version.
One of his better-known productions is the Cocteau Twins' debut Garlands. (He is the namesake of "Ivo", the lead track of Cocteau Twins' 1984 album, Treasure.) [10] He also led This Mortal Coil, writing and selecting songs; choosing the personnel for each song; and occasionally playing keyboards.

John Fryer (born 1958) is an English record producer. Best known for his production work, he has also performed as a musician, as one of the two constant members of This Mortal Coil (along with Ivo Watts-Russell), providing keyboards, strings and synthesizer sequencing for the band, and its offshoot, the Hope Blister.
