Best known for his time with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he played from the club's formation in 1994 until 2002. Calder had been inherited from the squad of Inverness Thistle, who had merged with local rivals Caledonian to form the new club. Calder's goalkeeping antics and spectacular saves made him a firm favourite with Caley fans.

Part of the application to join the Scottish League was a commitment to move to a new stadium and, a year later than originally planned, Caley moved to the newly built Caledonian Park in November 1996.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are a Scottish professional association football club based in Inverness. They have played at their home ground, the Caledonian Stadium, since 1996, prior to that they played at Telford Street Park, as well as a brief spell at Pittodrie in Aberdeen whilst the Caledonian Stadium was being refurbished following their promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2004.
